How do I apply for an internship?

An internship is defined as the acquisition of practical skills by an unemployed person to perform tasks in the workplace. During the traineeship no employment relationship with the employer is established. An internship is often confused with an apprenticeship. An internship refers to young people and students who are in the course of their education or just after graduation. An internship, on the other hand, refers to unemployed people registered with the Labor Office. Read the article to the end and learn how to apply for an internship.

Who can be a trainee?

The internship can be undertaken by unemployed people registered in the Labour Office. However, they must meet certain requirements. A person can become an intern:

  • unemployed up to 25 years of age,
  • unemployed over 50 years of age
  • professionally inactive who did not take up work after childbirth,
  • long-term unemployed,
  • without professional qualifications or without professional experience,
  • disabled.

The maximum duration of the internship cannot exceed 6 months. In the case of unemployed people under 30 years of age, the duration cannot exceed 12 months.

Where can a person be sent to work as an intern?

An unemployed person can be directed to an employer which can be e.g:

  • a natural person running a business not employing an employee,
  • a non-governmental organization,
  • an agricultural production cooperative,
  • an adult natural person who lives and runs a plant or animal production business, including horticulture, orchards, beekeeping and fishery, in the area of Poland personally and on his own account.

How to submit an offer of traineeship?

If you want to apply for a traineeship, you should apply for a contract to organize a traineeship to the appropriate poviat Employment Office. Then, on behalf of the starost, the director of the employment office will verify the completeness and correctness of the submitted documents. After the application is positively approved, the internship applicant signs with the starost (or on behalf of the starost with the director of the poviat employment office) an agreement to organize the internship. The duration of the matter should not exceed 30 days.

How to submit an offer to organize an internship? – Cost

The service is free. You may incur costs if you act through an attorney. In such a case, you will have to pay PLN 17 for the power of attorney. You do not pay the fee if you grant power of attorney to your husband, wife, children, siblings, parents, grandparents or grandchildren. The fee should be paid to the account of the city or town hall appropriate to the seat of the office where you appoint an attorney (you can check the account number on the website of the city or town hall).
