Web vs. mobile traffic

Starting in 2011, the percentage of people using the internet on smartphones has been increasing. As you can easily guess, this has to do with the great development of mobile devices. In addition, the development of the Internet itself, which offers fast wireless connections, is also important. Larger and larger screens and more powerful components have meant that in many cases using the internet is more comfortable on a smaller mobile device than on a cumbersome laptop or computer. Read the article to the end and find out more about the internet and mobile traffic.

Internet traffic breakthrough

In October 2016, for the first time ever, the world saw more web traffic coming from mobile devices (51.3%) as from computers (48.7%). On the one hand, this breakthrough has created new challenges for web designers. It is not only about the surfing comfort and design of sites that are not adapted for mobile versions, but also about Google’s algorithms, which began to give preference to sites best suited for mobile devices. On the other hand, it illustrated a trend that is still in force, that of Internet accessibility. Researchers estimate that in 2023, 5.3 billion people will have access to the Internet, or almost 70% of the entire earth’s population (in 2020 it was 4.5 billion people). In turn, the number of devices connected to the network is expected to be three times the number of people on earth. Without a doubt, it can be assumed that the vast majority of these devices will be mobile.

A breakthrough in internet traffic

Internet and mobile traffic – how does it look like in Poland?

Currently, the highest internet traffic in Poland comes from smartphones (about 60%), followed by computers (about 35%), and finally tablets (about 5%). This trend has been stable for a long time and is not likely to change. The availability of internet connection on smartphones has caused a large proportion of seniors to start using this invention. Practically every senior has a cell phone, which is often a smartphone. Such a device is much easier to operate than a computer. This causes that having a device with internet access in their hand, seniors start surfing the web.
